Falls Prevention for Older Adults
Falls are the leading cause of home injury across all age groups and older adults are more likely to suffer serious injuries if they fall. With Fall Prevention Awareness Day on September 23, the Home Safety Council encourages older adults and their loved ones to work together to reduce risks of falls in their homes by following HSC's life-saving falls prevention tips.
Start by walking through your home and asking yourself questions about what you see:
• Do you have grab bars installed in the bathroom?
• Do you have handrails on both sides of your stairways?
• Are your hallways well lit?
• Do you have throw rugs in your home? Are they secured to the floor?
