At the American Public Health Association’s 137th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA, the Home Safety Council presented on the Safety of Seniors Act as a public health policy success in the area of older adult falls prevention. The full session explored the vital role of injury prevention as a part of public health, using older adult falls prevention as a lens to examine the impact that injuries have on the U.S. at the state and Federal level. The session also explored policy and programmatic interventions to address this important and growing public health problem, given the significant impact injuries have on the health of Americans, including premature death, disability, and the burden placed on the health care system.
