Testimony Educates Congress about Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention
In support of Senator Mikulski’s funding request, HSC submitted testimony to the Senate Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies to increase funding for CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control.
This request was made on behalf of the 30-member falls coalition as an indication of the growing support surrounding this issue. Given the focus on health care reform, the testimony was framed to educate Members about the critical link between chronic disease and injury prevention.
HSC continues to advocate for this funding, anticipating that it will have the opportunity to competitively seek funding for its older adult falls prevention activities, as well as other Injury Center programs. Initial progress is being reflected in the increased access to funding at the state level for falls prevention programming.
