Letter Requests More Funding for Older Adult Falls Prevention
With the urging of HSC and the Falls Free Advocacy Work Group, Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) agreed to send a Dear Colleague requesting $10 million for older adult falls prevention.
The letter encouraged other Senate members to sign on to the letter to help convince the Senate Appropriations Committee to allocate $10 million through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) “Unintentional Injury and Prevention” account. This would allow the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) to comprehensively address the widespread, yet preventable, issue of older adult falls.
In the letter, Mikulski recognized the Falls Free Coalition Advocacy Work Group (FFCAWG), including HSC, as leading experts representing the aging community, public health professionals and safety experts.
